After an exhaustive search and approval from the book’s three authors, I selected the cover image and proceeded to dramatically alter its symbolism. Originally, the icons represented ideas from architecture, engineering, and construction. The people were all black and male. It was a challenging and fun process to remake the cover image into one that would represent the Jewish community and its cultural diversity. (see the final front cover, the full cover with flaps, and the inside cover) For a non-fiction work, the book itself presented an opportunity to create a dynamic, varied body with liberal use of photographs and other visual cues, including chapter headers, pull quotes and excel charts, and a photography section.
